Orion NZ Ltd

The company

Passionate, curious, and innovative are a few words that describe our people. We are powering the future, connecting communities, and igniting innovation. Orion owns and operates the electricity distribution network that provides power to central Canterbury. As the third largest electricity distribution network in New Zealand, we cover remote rural areas, regional towns, and the city of Christchurch.

We are an essential service and take our responsibilities seriously. We are community owned and working here means a career with meaning and purpose that makes a difference in your very own neighbourhood.

The role

Every piece of asset data tells a story. Your job is to uncover it.

As an Asset Insights Analyst at Orion, you'll combine analytical thinking with curiosity to turn complex data into insights that support smarter decisions across our electricity network. You'll work with engineers, asset specialists and leaders across the business to solve problems, identify opportunities and continually improve the quality of the information that helps shape our future.

If you're naturally curious, enjoy asking "why?" and love turning data into practical solutions, you'll thrive in this role.

  • Turn complex asset and spatial data into meaningful business insights

  • Create engaging dashboards, reports and visualisations that influence decisions

  • Work with stakeholders across the business to solve real operational challenges

  • Support projects that improve asset performance and information quality

  • Identify trends, risks and opportunities through thoughtful analysis

  • Help improve data quality and champion better data practices

  • Contribute to new ideas, tools and innovative ways of working across the Asset Insights team

About you

You'll enjoy this role if you're someone who loves digging into data, solving problems and making sense of complex information. You're equally comfortable analysing datasets as you are turning your findings into something others can understand and use.

We're looking for someone who brings:

  • Experience in data analytics, GIS, asset information or an analytical role with a relevant qualification in GIS, Data Analytics, Computer Science or depth of equivalent experience

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a natural curiosity

  • Experience working with spatial or geospatial data

  • Ability to communicate complex information in a simple, meaningful way

  • Confidence building relationships across technical and non-technical teams

  • A continuous improvement mindset and a passion for finding better ways of working

What they offer

You'll find at Orion, you can come as you are and just be you. You will be joining a workplace that values who you are, the work you do, and the way you think.

Importantly, we offer:

  • Flexible working arrangements, and flexible locations with our head office in Burnside and satellite offices in Rolleston and Ferrymead

  • Five extra days of leave a year - three days of “My Days” leave and two “Orion Days” between Christmas and New Year

  • A broad range of workplace benefits from a wellbeing allowance to access to our holiday house in Hanmer!

You might be surprised to find out that the company that brings the power to your home is innovative, inclusive, progressive, and quite good fun.
