The role


Technology is at the heart of our on-going growth and success, as we evolve into a smarter more connected energy network, we're looking for an Operational Technology (OT) Systems Engineer who's passionate about secure, resilient systems that keep our communities connected and our grid performing at its best.

This is your chance to be a part of New Zealand's energy transition, designing and supporting the communication networks that make modern electricity systems possible. You'll collaborate across teams, shape the way OT and cyber security come together and help drive our digital evolution from the ground up.


  • Design, implement, and maintain secure and resilient OT communication networks supporting real-time SCADA and control systems

  • Lead OT cyber security initiatives across the Engineering Support team in collaboration with the Data, Digital & Technology (DDT) team

  • Identify and mitigate network risks and support fault investigations

  • Develop and maintain OT network standards, documentation and training to build organisational capability

  • Contribute to long-term strategic initiatives, including network modernisation, automation, and the transition toward a Distributed System Operator (DSO) model

About you


  • Background and experience designing and supporting communications networks, ideally within utilities or critical infrastructure with a qualification in computer networking, electrical engineering, or similar field

  • Deep understanding of automation protocols, architectures, and security principles

  • Experience with OSPF networking, fibre/radio/copper mediums, and Windows or Red Hat server management

  • Strong problem-solving skills, and an ability to make informed decisions under pressure

  • A proactive mindset and a commitment to improving performance, security, and scalability

  • Willingness to build and develop expertise in the electricity sector where your curiosity, creativity and initiative approach will shine

  • A strong collaborator and team player with excellent communication skills where others can rely on you.
