The role
Our Operational Technology team has had an exciting internal promotion which means a rare opportunity is now open for an Operational Support Engineer to step in and help us keep our electricity network safe, reliable and future-ready.
This is a role for someone who is looking for a blend of technical detail, problem-solving and system thinking. You'll play an important part in supporting our ADMS and network management tools helping ensure our live network model stays accurate, up to date and ready to guide safe operational decisions.
Working alongside experienced team members you'll contribute and provide support to system improvements, assist during major events and help build capability across the wider organisation through documentation and steady, reliable support.
Working as first line support person you will provide support between the Operations Team, Control Room, Field Operators and our Operational Technology team engineers to keep the systems that operate out electrical network working smoothly
Monitor network conditions spotting issues early and supporting fast and informed operational decisions
Support the building and delivery of training programmes for our internal teams and contractors
Support outage management, restoration planning and low-voltage troubleshooting during major events
Support the Developing Operational Support Plans, managing change controls and helping shape improvements to our network management model
Work closely with internal teams to keep us aligned, safe and future-focused
About you
A graduate of an electrical engineering, megatronics NZDE or similar
An interest in working in the Electrical industry and the Information Technology systems that support the operation of a large Electrical Distribution network
A Level 6 NZDE (or equivalent practical experience) in a relevant engineering field - you understand how electricity networks work and enjoy applying that knowledge in a practical way
Familiarity with network management systems, SCADA or load management so you're comfortable supporting the tools that keep our network running safely
Confident communication skills where you can switch easily between technical discussions and everyday language
Collaborative and forward-thinking approach, you'll thrive on bringing people together to solve technical problems and deliver shared success
A naturally positive, curious and customer-focused approach where you like supporting people, solving problems and learning as technology evolves
