The role


We are looking for a Regulatory Lead (Electricity Authority) that will provide electricity market regulatory expertise to manage Orion's regulatory risks. You will communicate and advocate Orion's regulatory position and engagement ensuring we deliver on strategic objectives while we enhance our industry reputation with a focus on outcomes for our current and future customers.

Building a strong and trusted relationship while engaging with the Electricity Authority will be a key factor in this role. You'll get excited by the opportunity to enhance our industry reputation with a strong focus on our current and future customers.


  • Provide electricity market regulatory advice and support to Orion assessing the impact on the business and our decision making

  • Represent Orion in industry forums, meetings and working groups with a knowledgeable and informed voice on electricity market regulatory issues

  • Understand electricity market regulatory landscapes and factors to ensure an understanding of regulatory risk and how we respond

  • Remain up to date on regulatory and disclosure requirements and changes of the Electricity Industry Participation Code

  • Write and produce written submissions to the Electricity Authority following a thorough internal process enlisting subject matter experts

  • Assist and take a lead in implementation of Code changes with impacted business units

  • Facilitate and manage regulatory audits

About you


  • 5 years' experience in a similar role, preferably in the electricity or telecommunications sector and a relevant tertiary degree in economics, engineering or law

  • Strong understanding of the New Zealand regulatory environment - how is applies to the electricity industry will be an advantage

  • Build strong relationships with the ability to work collegially and hold a place at the table with other industry leaders and stakeholders

  • Ability to translate and relay complex information to others using appropriate language to various audiences

  • Strong sense of responsibility and accountability with the ability to engender responsibility in others

  • See continual improvement with an innovative approach and a big picture focus
