The company

Passionate, curious, and innovative are a few words that describe our people. We are powering the future, connecting communities, and igniting innovation. Orion owns and operates the electricity distribution network that provides power to central Canterbury. As the third largest electricity distribution network in New Zealand, we cover remote rural areas, regional towns, and the city of Ōtautahi Christchurch.

We are an essential service and take our responsibilities seriously. We are community owned and working here means a career with meaning and purpose that makes a difference in your very own neighbourhood.

The role

We are looking for a Stakeholder Engagement Lead to play a pivotal role in building and strengthening strategic relationships. You'll create meaningful connections with stakeholders in our community and across the industry. You don't need to be a technical expert, but you will need open doors to uncover and understand our community's electricity needs now and for the future.

This is a strategic and hands-on role where your ability to lead stakeholder engagement initiatives will directly shape the success of our projects and partnerships across our communities. It's an exciting time to champion authentic relationships and drive high-impact sponsorships and events that represent who we are and build our brand.

  • Foster trusted relationships and collaborate with key community stakeholders

  • Collaborate closely across the business sharing the needs and expectations of key community stakeholders

  • Gather, analyse and share strategic insights from stakeholders to support decision-making and future planning

  • Develop and implement a strategy for sponsorship and community events

  • Lead sponsorship initiatives and build our brand and community focus and engagement

  • Manage allocated budgets ensuring transparency and effective stakeholder and sponsorship activities

About you

  • Previous experience in a similar role of stakeholder management and engagement - preferably within the utility or infrastructure sector

  • An open, consultative style - you'll be transparent, collaborative with a ‘no surprises' approach

  • Previous exposure to growing and building a brand - we want to share people know what we are working on

  • Demonstrated success in designing and executing stakeholder and sponsorship strategies

  • Confidence and capability engaging with diverse communities

  • Be respectful, curious and culturally aware with a solid understanding of our local environment

What they offer

You'll find at Orion, you can come as you are and just be you. You will be joining a workplace that values who you are, the work you do, and the way you think. Importantly, we offer:

  • Flexible working arrangements, and flexible locations with our Head office in Burnside and satellite offices in Rolleston and Ferrymead, as well as the ability to work from home

  • Three days of "My Days" leave

  • A broad range of workplace benefits from a wellbeing allowance to access to our holiday house in Hanmer!

You might be surprised to find out that the company that brings the power to your home is innovative, inclusive, progressive, and quite good fun.
