The role
Due to continued growth, we're looking for a leader who thrives at the intersection of technology, strategy, and people. As our Substations & Secondary Systems Manager, you'll shape the next generation of our network ensuring it's safe, smart and ready for tomorrow and in the future.
You'll lead a team of talented engineers and technical specialists who design, protect and evolve the backbone of our network - spanning both primary and secondary systems. We are proud to be leaders in innovation, demonstrated through initiatives such as our digital substation programme, where we're pioneering smarter, safer and more costs-efficient solutions for our customers.
This is a hands-on leadership role where your technical expertise and strategic insight will directly influence how our electricity network performs, protects and progresses not just for today, but for our future generations.
Lead technical specialists driving performance and reliability in substation and secondary systems
Shape the long-term strategy for substations and secondary systems, enhancing network resilience and reliability
Lead with vision while thinking ahead, challenging the status quo and inspiring others to build what's next
Drive innovation by embedding new technologies and digital tools
Set and uphold engineering standards and specifications across design, commissioning, and maintenance
Collaborate across the business to ensure seamless delivery of projects and proactive network risk management
About you
Previous experience in the electricity distribution or transmission sector, with a solid grounding in how complex networks operate. An NZDE Level 6 or higher is required, while CPEng registration and/or current electrical practising licence will be considered strong advantages
Proven leadership experience ideally guiding technical or engineering teams
Proven expertise in substation design, protection systems, and SCADA/communication networks; you know what good looks like, and how to make it happen
Collaborative and forward-thinking approach, you'll thrive on bringing people together to solve technical problems and deliver shared success
A natural coach and mentor, passionate about helping others grow their capability and confidence
Adaptable and curious, you stay ahead of emerging technologies and constantly look for smarter, safer ways to do things
