The role
As a Technical Engineer in our Substations & Secondary Systems team, you'll play a key role in ensuring the safe, secure and reliable operation of our network. This role is well-suited to someone with experience across secondary and primary systems who's keen to broaden their understanding before choosing to specialise.
We're looking for an engineer in the early stages of their career - someone with a few years of practical experience who's ready to hit the ground running, You'll be a person who enjoys a mix of analysis, hands-on engineering input and continuous improvement.
You'll work closely with our internal teams, service providers, consultants and vendors while contributing to the design, implementation and maintenance of critical substation and secondary assets. Your work will influence everything from fault investigations to commissioning new assets, and supporting our major projects.
Develop protection settings that support safe and coordinated network operation
Carry out modelling, analysis, arc-flash studies and fault investigations
Support new equipment introduction including evaluation, specifications, and integration
Provide technical input and oversight during commissioning of primary and secondary systems
Contribute to improvements that enhance network safety, reliability and efficiency
Assist in developing and maintaining our engineering standards and specifications
About you
Knowledge of protection schemes, settings, modelling and primary systems with an Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent technical experience
Previous experience in electricity distribution or transmission
Knowledge of OT/SCADA communications systems (IEC61850, DNP3, Modbus preferred)
Understanding of the New Zealand electricity regulations
A proactive mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement
Willingness to build and develop expertise in the electricity sector where your curiosity, creativity and initiative approach will shine
A strong collaborator and team player with excellent communication skills where others can rely on you.
