The company
Passionate, curious, and innovative are a few words that describe our people. We are powering the future, connecting communities, and igniting innovation. Orion owns and operates the electricity distribution network that provides power to central Canterbury. As the third largest electricity distribution network in New Zealand, we cover remote rural areas, regional towns, and the city of Christchurch.
We are an essential service and take our responsibilities seriously. We are community owned and working here means a career with meaning and purpose that makes a difference in your very own neighbourhood.
The role
Pricing isn't just about numbers. It's about understanding people and regulatory requirements, solving complex challenges and finding the right balance between commercial outcomes, customer needs and the future of our electricity network.
We're looking for a Technical Pricing Advisor to join our Revenue team. This is a specialist role where you'll combine technical thinking with real-world conversations, working alongside customers, engineers, regulators and industry partners to develop pricing approaches that support smarter decisions and a more sustainable network.
If you enjoy digging into complex problems and don't want to just spend every day hidden behind a spreadsheet, this could be exactly what you're looking for.
No two days will look the same. One day you could be developing upfront and ongoing pricing models for new customer connections, the next you're meeting with stakeholders, contributing to industry discussions or helping shape future pricing strategies.
Maintain and develop technical pricing models, tools, and supporting frameworks that underpin pricing decisions and business outcomes
Provide specialist advice on complex customer pricing and commercial aspects including flexible connection arrangements
Translate technical and commercial information into practical price signals, and easy-to-understand advice
Support annual pricing reviews and future pricing initiatives
Stay up to date with regulatory and industry changes that impact pricing
Identify opportunities to improve tools, processes, documentation and ways of working through innovation and automation
About you
Experience in pricing, commercial analysis, economics or another analytical discipline with a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry knowledge
Balance technical analysis with meaningful stakeholder engagement
Naturally curious, commercially minded and great at building relationships
A background in utilities, infrastructure, engineering, finance or another complex environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience using tools such as Excel, Power BI, SQL or similar
Ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels
A knack for turning technical information into practical business solutions
